Cushman Creative Takes Gold MarCom Award for MDI Biological Laboratory’s donor magazine “Breaking Through”

Breaking Through Summer 2017

Cushman Creative, a design agency specializing in biomedical and life science marketing, was honored with a gold 2017 MarCom Award for its work with the MDI Biological Laboratory located in Bar Harbor, Maine.

PORT CLYDE, Maine – December 7, 2017: Cushman Creative took gold for the redesign of the MDI Bio Lab’s semi-annual donor magazine, recently retitled “Breaking Through.” The name and new design were inspired by the institution’s 2014 Annual Report created by Cushman Creative, which won several awards and was featured in the prestigious Graphis 2017 Design Annual.

“The concept behind ‘Breaking Through’ is that research does not have a beginning and an end,” says Karan Cushman, CEO, Cushman Creative. “Instead, it is the result of breaking through one barrier at a time to realize the possibility of the next medical advance. The original Case Statement highlighted the patients, scientists and donors who raise awareness and enable research every day. MDI Bio Lab’s donor magazine regularly updates supporters on the institution’s progress and encourages more engagement.”

Breaking Through This is Why

Each issue features a special section titled “This is Why” which shares a personal story from an individual that is close to the Laboratory’s work. This storyline is part of larger campaign that shares many perspectives from donors, researchers, students and other stakeholders about why this work is so important to the future of human health.


MarComAwards
 is an international competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional and emerging media, and is judged by The Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. Other top 2017 winners include IBM Watson, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, United Way Worldwide and Eli Lilly and Company.
