3 Online Marketing Platforms for Attracting Talent to your Institution.

Social media can make recruiting much easier and more effective by enabling you to target your next employee and communicate your opportunity more extensively. It also provides a great opportunity to showcase your biomedical nonprofit’s expertise and achievements to promote your company as an industry leader.

For most biomedical nonprofits, 3 major social sites—Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn—are still the most effective for recruitment. Here are some simple ways to leverage their capabilities and attract talent by demonstrating brand leadership:

Twitter
The amount of tweets per day is astonishing – over 175 million. How can you use the amount of traffic to your advantage? Twitter can make the hiring process easier for you by quickly and effectively targeting specific audiences. When tweeting a job opening, make sure that you’re using the right message to reach your target. Spend some time thinking about the specific keywords and hashtags that your ideal employee would be searching for, and use those in your tweets. Although the character count of your message is limited, be sure to use words that communicate leadership and/or link back to a section of your website that highlights your institution’s successes and expertise. Lastly, once you know what you want to say, be sure to choose the best time of day to reach your audience.

Facebook
There is no doubt that Facebook has a broad reach. There are over a billion Facebook users, and over 50% of them report checking their account daily. That’s reason enough why most biomedical institutions already have an active Facebook page. Facebook gives your biomedical nonprofit the opportunity to share its thought leadership and company culture more regularly and prominently than you can on a corporate website. Every day you can share more of your history, latest research findings, and even community events to impress potential employees with your company culture. Use Facebook tabs to help visitors find important information in a more personal way than they could on your website. For example, by having a Career Tab you can encourage fans to check job openings with a simple click and without leaving their favorite social network.

LinkedIn
As the world’s largest professional network, LinkedIn is strong and growing. Here, your biomedical nonprofit will find an endless number of people that are as enthusiastic about your work as you are. Your institution can engage specific audiences and candidates by creating and/or joining LinkedIn groups and actively participating. Nothing shows leadership like coming to the virtual roundtable with thought-provoking ideas and insights. Getting your institution’s best thinkers to publicly share their opinions will naturally attract like-minded professionals. Another benefit of networking on LinkedIn is having connections that can do some of the work for you. When you share your biomedical nonprofit’s current openings with your connections, they will likely filter them to their contacts. That can create a viral effect and give you valuable exposure to a wide range of potential qualified employees.

Even if You Aren’t Actively Recruiting….

Remember, social media allows you to build a brand story over time. As you engage in conversations, be mindful that every time you post you are communicating your institution’s personality as an employer. Be sure you are communicating like a leader! Even if you aren’t recruiting heavily at the moment, continue to participate in discussions about specific issues in the biomedical industry. You’ll make it easier to identify and connect with those who could be a perfect fit when you are actively recruiting.
